Love is in the air in February and it can be such a fun time of year. Just when the short days (that seem so long) of January are dragging on, Valentine’s day can swoop in and jazz things up a little. One really quick and easy way to add a little fun to February in your elementary classroom is to have some no prep (or low prep) printables, centers, and activities right at your fingertips.

You can either plug these activities into your planbook to support Valentine’s Day math, phonics, or writing lessons…or you can keep them on hand for those days when your students need something extra to fill in the time.

When I created all of these resources (primarily for students K-2) I used them mostly in stations or for independent work time.  I tried to make them as easy as possible to use so that you’re not spending hours and hours prepping for these activities (I mean, Valentine’s Day is fun, but you’ve got enough on your hands right?

To save you some browsing time, I want to share with you 8 of my favorite printable Valentine’s Day classroom printables so you can save yourself some browsing time!

Valentine’s Day Color By Number

Color by code activities are some of my favorites. I’ve written before about all the reasons I love color by number printables and also how I use them in the elementary school classroom.

One of the things that I aimed to do when creating these color by number resources was to create differentiated versions using the same exact pictures. One of the main reasons for this was that my students really needed leveled practice. It was difficult to see some students noticing that they had different work than their peers, so I made a commitment to try to align things as much as possible.
For this reason, I have created three versions of this resource using the same pictures, so if you scoop up the bundle you will have all three versions and could have each student working on the same Valentine’s Day coloring page, but practicing the math skill that’s best for them!

*Valentine’s Day Color By Number

*Valentine’s Day Addition to 10 (Doubles to 12) Color by Code

*Valentine’s Day Addition to 20 Color By code.

The bundle is offered at 33% off, so you basically get one of the resources free. Check that out here! (or here on tpt)

How a Rose Grows

Reading comprehension , retelling, and sequencing are always skills we are working on with young readers. This resource includes differerentiated emergent readers in the form of two printable mini books with differently leveled text. You can decide based on your readers whether you read it together, have students read it in pair or with groups, or have it be an independent literacy center.

It comes complete with appropriate vocabulary, and response activities.

It’s sometimes hard to find informational texts for beginning readers that are printable and can be colored and sent home so this is a great one to use this time of year, or even tuck it away for spring.

You can get this activity here! (or here on tpt)

Math facts are another area that we can ALWAYS have extra practice in. It’s not always easy to differentiate for students who are able to go to the next level. That’s exactly why I created this spin and solve activity. It’s one of the many activity types that can be used to practice almost any skill.

This particular Valentine’s Day Math Station is great for practicing basic addition, adding three numbers, adding multiples of 10, multiplication, and fact families.

The great thing is that since there are four spinners you can choose the numbers and skills that are most appropriate for each student/ group of students (if you’re using more of a guided math approach). Then you can choose the recording sheet that directs students to practice math at the level they are ready to practice facts.

This is another one of those resources that all the students can do, but some will be working on fact families, and other just on adding two numbers. Again, this really helps to include all students, and doesn’t demand that you prepare entirely different stations for students who are working on different skills.

Valentine’s Day 10 Frame Practice For Math

This quick and easy 10 frame math practice set can be used for students to practice identifying numbers on a 10 frame, adding to make a 10, and even play some games.

It’s super versatile including a “write the room math” component, practice pages, and then game play cards. The Write the room activity is such a fun way to get students up and moving around the classroom (I’ve written more about this here).

I  just printed my game play cards on cardstock (so you can’t see through them) and then my struggling students would practice matching (or playing go fish for the same number card) and my students who were ready for a challenge would have to make matches to make a 10. They also loved playing go-fish to make a 10. I’d just print several copies of the cards, they’d take a few in their hand and ask the others if they have the card with the value they need to make a 10 (for example someone who had a 7 would ask a friend if they have a 3).

Overall I love that this resource includes a warm up (write the room), some practice pages and a follow up game all to reinforce skills just right for your students.

Do you need a variety of literacy and math printables at your fingertips so you have some extra and easy practice for Valentine’s Day?
This is the variety pack sort of resource that might be just right for your students.

From word searches, to phonics and word building, to card writing and color by number pictures, it’s a little bit of everything!

I loved sending this to the printer and making little activity booklets too which were perfect all February long for early finishers, morning work, or guest teachers (substitute plans).

Valentine’s Day Number Practice (1-5)

Practicing number writing, counting, and number recognition are skills that take lots of time and repetition. It’s important to find ways to really  reinforce these skills without them getting too bored. Practice number 1-5 with your preschoolers using these types of activities:

1- Posters- These are great to use for morning meeting or to hang around the classroom. They serve as number posters and classroom decor in February and I always like when I get check two things off my list at once!

2.Clip Cards- These heart counting clip cards are great for stations or tubs. They reinforce counting and number recognition and incorporate those fine motor skills as well as children clip the clothes pins to the correct cards.

3. Spin and Cover Game- This game is a lot of fun for children to play. I like to play this alongside young children to help guide them. It can be played as a pair or independently. It’s also a great idea to teach them about spinner games, because once they know how it works, these types of activities can be created to practice almost any skill!

4.  Number Practice Interactive Packet- This is one of those quick and easy printable booklet where students color, represent, and then find each number. If they are ready to write, you can also have them label the quantities the number.

February Sight Word Practice

While this sight word practice is about more than just Valentine’s Day theme, it does have many parts that are very heart, love and Valentine’s themed! This includes a word building center, sight word color by code, sight word roll and cover up, and sight word puzzles (other February topics are included here too!) I have written more about this topic here.

The words practiced in this resource align with the February word cards, which are free here.

Here’s a list of the words practiced: soon, then, play, know, put, over, under, any, some, our, be, many, who, just, so, them

I love that these activities can be used to practice these sight words independently, with partners, or even at home.

This is a part of my Sight Words All year bundle, which you can find on TeachersPayTeachers here!

February Math Journal (Printable & Digital)

This product line is one of my favorites. After teaching for years it became apparent to me that the isolated skill practice wasn’t cutting it. Additionally students ALWAYS struggled with those word problems. I felt like I was chasing assessment scores, and the children didn’t really internalize the concepts. That’s where these monthly problem solving journals were born. While they grow and the skills become more complicated as the year goes on, you can start using them anytime.

This journal has 15 word problems that provide relevant and relatable word problems for students to practice:

  • Number line to add and subtract within 20.
  • Interpreting data (bar graph)
  • Using a table to solve
  • Place value to 50
  • Adding and subtracting 10s
  • Comparing quantities
  • Add and subtract within 10 and 20.

All of these skills are closely aligned with first grade Common Core Math Standards, but they are useful for some kindergartners and great for review or independent practice for second graders as well!

During times of virtual learning, I also added a digital version to the resource using Google Slides. While I think the printable journal is the ideal format for young learners, the Google slides version would be great for demonstrating to the class or having students show their work!
