Picture Books about Birthdays

Whether it was our All About Me unit, or just a little something special to celebrate classroom birthdays, I often found myself looking for fun birthday themed books to add to my classroom library. Here are some of my favorite picture books about birthday which are great for preschool and early elementary students!

Big Brown Bear’s Birthday SURPRISE

This is a super cute book about friendship with a little bit of silliness that comes along with misunderstandings. It’s great for making inferences for students!

Bears and a Birthday (Bears on Chairs)

This one is especially cute for young readers at the preschool or kindergarten range.

Click, Clack, Surprise!/Ready-to-Read

It’s always so much fun to add a themed book with old character friends. I LOVE Click Clack Moo; Cows that Type, because it’s great for so many basic learning activities, and a party themed visit from these old friends can make a birthday extra special!

Ten Rules of the Birthday Wish

Otis & Sydney and the Best Birthday Ever

The Best Birthday Ever!: By Me (Lana Kittie)

Angelina’s Birthday (Angelina Ballerina)

This is yet another birthday themed book with a character who feels like an old friend! This is  a great story of friendship and how being kind and helpful can really pay off!

Birthdays Around the World

I LOVE this book! I just recently found this title and each page spread has illustrations and information about how birthdays are celebrated around the world. It’s a great book to read during an All About Me Unit  because you always discover how differently families, even in the same town, celebrate differently.

Marigold Bakes a Cake

While this isn’t just a birthday story, it is a great one about a silly cat who gets frustrated with pesky birds. You could read this one just for fun, during a how to writing unit, for a birthday, or even in a social emotional learning lesson about feeling frustrated.

Happy Birthday, Mouse! (If You Give…)

… and the last title I’ll share for now is yet another book about a favorite character! This is a definite favorite!
